On a dark Saturday evening a large bonfire sighting sparked excitement as residents chased rumors of a blaze near Forest Hill Alma Beaver Creek and St. Louis. A portly neighbor fell, lost hat and pail, and returned home after misadventure while the real fire turned out to be a group of boys skating.
A Good Meeting entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Geo Irish opens with exercises and dinner. John Murphy is elected president, David Best vice president, Mrs Best secretary, Mrs Jonnie Allis corresponding secretary, Mrs John Pink treasurer, Mrs Abbie Wolfe organist and chorister, Mrs J H Allis chaplain. February meeting at Eckert home with Mr and Mrs Ely Wolfe. club to bring lap boards. Members assign entertaining months and plan a February program on legislation affecting farmers.
A wedding unites Ethel May Beeson and John S. Gerber at Beeson home in Sumner township with Rev. C E Hong officiating. Attended by relatives, friends, and Mr. and Mrs. John Rockefelow. They will reside in Lansing after a brief reception and wedding gifts include silverware and a $50 check from M L Rice.

George D. Sutton of Zeta Sigma won the college oratorical contest held in the college chapel on Wednesday evening. He spoke on John Hay, delivering a strong, well drilled oration and receiving first place from all judges. Sutton will represent Alma College in the state contest here in March, earning a gold medal. Herman Morse of Phi Pi Alpha spoke on Christian Citizenship, Francis Cobb on Economic Peace, and Blake McDonald on The Y M C A Movement. judges were Miss Johnson, Ferguson, Williams, Sharp, and King.
A spark from a parlor match ignited a sofa at A. B. Scattergood’s home last Tuesday evening. The hired girl lit a lamp, found the couch ablaze on returning from the kitchen, burning Miss Scattergood’s coat and sofa pillows. Damages totaling 850 were settled by W. W. Kindagoncy. a remark notes caution for new ventures amid huge combinations.

Written by William Cooper, the romance tells a primeval American love story with vivid Indian life scenes. Porter J. White leads as Shawangunk the medicine man, with a cast including Chief Ugly Face, Shawano, Keohimqna, Watanna lian, Taahmod, and others. costumes and settings promise dramatic effect and audience support.
Last week the debating club staged a semi public contest on whether Republican principles are better than Democratic ideas. Affirmative speakers included Albert Hudson Edward Titus and Harry Hall. Negative team featured Dudley Tinker Carlyn Delavan and Blaine Hayes. The vote favored the Republicans. Club officers are President Albert Hudson Vice President Carlyn Delavan Secretary Blaine Hayes Sergeant at Arms Upthegrove Critic Ellsworth.
Milton Holmes returned from Springfield Ohio to become representative for central and northern Michigan. He delayed accepting before but finally agreed and began duties as grip carrier last Monday.
