The December mortality total in Michigan reached 2,088 with a rate of 12.4 per 1000. Infants under one year numbered 435, children ages 1 to 4 were 166, and 86 deaths occurred among those 65 and older. Major causes included pneumonia 228, tuberculosis 210, cancer 128, diarrheal diseases in infants 46, influenza 23, measles 10, diphtheria 66, typhoid 54, and accidents 147. Gratiot County reported 24 deaths from a population of 30.56 per 1000, with pneumonia and cancer among notable causes. Alma city recorded three deaths, chiefly due to pneumonia.

In Justice Court John W. Hall sued Wm. Clatt for damages over horses fed from corn in Hall’s field. Trial before Justice Chadwick in city hall lasted afternoon to evening with fourteen witnesses. Jury returned verdict of no change for action after five minutes. Bert Hayes for plaintiff and James G. Kress for defendant. Also Minnie Campbell vs William Campbell for non support settled. Campbell to pay $5 monthly and custody of child while working in Owosso.
