Alma Christmas Tree Exercise Marks Joyful Evening

A municipal Christmas tree event featured a child procession, carols, and a Santa giving gifts to children and the needy. Mayor A P Cook delivered remarks as electric tree lights glowed under a bright moon while legends of Wilfred and the origin of the Christmas tree were recounted. Rounders Camp at Bass Lake This Week

The Rounders Club meets at Bass Lake for hunting and camping this week. Six members, William Murphy, Dick Rockwell, Glen Rockwell, Lyle Follette, Ward Hodge and Malcolm Smith, travel to Rabbit as the chief game. Ril and Moses left Saturday to prepare for the rest of the party at Charles Murphy’s cottage. The group plans to return later this week.

Christmas Night Break-In Foiled At Alma Home

Mr and Mrs A R Smith heard a knock at the front door around 1 am. The door would not open the next morning, a broken skeleton key found in the lock. Walter Leonard visited Alma Friday evening, away from his Owosso Evening Argus post in St Louis for Christmas vacation.

Income Tax Returns Show 1913 Revenue Reach 28 Million

Complete 1913 returns reveal 57 598 filers paid 28 263 535 in income tax. Normal 1 percent tax produced 12 728 038. higher brackets generated 15 497 000 plus from incomes over 20 000. Married, single men, and single women totals are listed with brackets from 2 500 to over 500 000.

The Hnewn Brothers from Grand Rapids opened a fruit and candy store in the Arcada block after moving from Alma where they ran a similar business. They were formerly employed by C D Andrew General Mise in Colwood and Coilling, Michigan and have strong recommendations for honesty and ability. The brothers came to America from Syria eight years ago and have since traveled across the United States. Both are naturalized citizens.

Miss June Shepard and Ed Brehm Wed at Xmas Eve

Prof. R A Collins resigns as Alma High School principal at semester end to join Cleveland Eastern Technical High School in Ohio. He will teach debating and argumentation and earn about $400 more annually. Collins, in Alma a year and a half, is credited with fine work and strong qualifications. Enjoyable Time at Sumner Grange No 813 Meeting

White Celebrates Cond Birthday

A surprise party was held at Mr. M. L. White’s home in Dee for his wife Mrs. M. L. White to celebrate her forty second birthday. About forty friends attended the gathering with music and a luncheon. Before departure she received a hand painted salad bowl and six dishes as keepsakes.
