Tuesday updates from North Star Ithaca and Alma include Paul Crandall in North Star and J M Sweet visiting on business. Several social events are noted with Mrs Sear Decker, Miss Lena Gould and Miss Wright visiting from Owosso and St Louis respectively. Also reported are local auctions, overcoat ads, a diphtheria case, a newborn in Mechanic Street, and school and church notices.
Mr. Frank Powers improves steadily with his neck wound nearly closed. Mr. Lester Almoody has recovered from heroin surgery and will soon return to friends. Mrs. Thomas Hannett of Shepherd, brought in last Sunday, is doing well.
Alger Wood of this city has been elected captain of Alma college 1913 football team. Alger is recognized as one of the best fullbacks in the state and will make good in his new position. Chas Wise of Elyria Ohio assists by J B Wise shipped another car of fresh milkers Tuesday afternoon and left at once for Eaton Rapids where they have arranged for another load. The frame is up for the 80 foot ad oues to the depot. This will increase the length of the waiting room 20 feet and the baggage room 10 feet. When finished the depot will be surrounded with a brick platform. The three Alma boys who attended the Grand Rapids convention of the M A Donald Blaisdell Donald Smith and Malcolm Smith will report on the convention at the M F church next Sunday afternoon. Walter Vliet formerly of Alma who for the past few months has been at the head of the sales department of the Studebaker automobiles in the west with headquarters in Fargo North Dakota called on friends in the city the first of the week. Mr Viiet has been attending the convention of district managers held in Detroit last week and was met in Grand Rapids by his mother Mrs S A Viiet who accompanied him to his western home where she will spend the winter.

In Alma district a four Christmas trees event is planned at the schoolhouse Monday night in December. A dance occurred Friday evening at Bers Dal rymple's. Daniel Cowles of Asia visited Abert Ide's home Saturday and Sunday. Cecil Ball works for W. E. Waters. Vane Ball attended the Presbyterian in Alma Sunday. Tuesday evening this week the Arbor read a branch of the Order of Gleaners known as the Best Arbor, previously meeting at Arcada Grange hall, met at the G. A. R. hall in Alma, and will hold Arbor meetings twice monthly in winter. The Ancient Order of Gleaners comprises progressive farmers. the move benefits Alma by linking city and countryside. Next meeting is Tuesday evening December 17 at eight, with officer elections, refreshments, and social time after the business session.
