Alma to field first class city basketball team
The city will form a first class basketball squad drawing many players from local college bound athletes. Alger Wood will officiate at forward with Mark Spinney as partner. Lawrence Montigel and Paul Austin with Sidney Cook complete the lineup. Arnold Robinson will manage finances as the team plans a Christmas tour through northern Michigan facing Mt. Pleasant Midland Bay City and other towns. City practice will precede potential city title games as central Michigan teams may visit Alma for winter sport excitement.

Football Banquet Honors 1913 Team at Wright Hall
The annual college football banquet for the 1913 team will be held at Wright Hall on Tuesday evening, December 16, starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost 50 cents and are sold at local drug stores. The OwossoImprove ment Association backed the Detroit to Owosso move five years ago, with a $400000 wage pledge. Payroll rose to 64000 in 1912 and 2000 in ten months this year. The firm, now 85 workers, added a four story plant and expansion of the moulding department. Sales grew from 83000 in 1905 to 21500 in 1913, with over 800000 in stove shipments in five years bearing Owosso, Mich. name nationwide.

The Gratiot County Republican club met in Alma and set Friday night February 6 1914 as the date for the annual banquet to be held in the Alma High School gymnasium with capacity for six hundred on the main floor and galleries for spectators. Toastmaster Senator Smith and other speakers will address state and national matters shaping next summers campaigns. Wyant converts East Superior garage to skating rink
Wyant, who built a new East Superior street garage, has turned it into a roller skating rink for winter. The solid maple floor is finished to glass smoothness with offices and check rooms in the south end and an electric organ with trumpet horns, piccolos, fagcolets, drums, and cymbals above. Wyant plans to use next summer’s space as a display room for cars and convert the basement into a modern garage. A policeman resident is described as a vegetarian who lives on beets.

Born June 20, 1856, she married William Sprague on November 28, 1. six children survive. Funeral held at home with burial in St. Louis cemetery. She was a Christian, admired for virtue, and her death alters a large circle of friends and relatives, including her parents E. R. White of this city.
