Ill-Fated Journey and Vast fortune of Mr Hill
The article traces the life of Mr Hill born in St. Clair County Michigan in 1848. He moved to Saginaw in 1856 and graduated from the state university engineering program. He built a vast lumber fortune with holdings across the country, sold Minnesota lands to the Weyerhaeusers in 1894, and led Pacific coast steamship investments including ships built on the Great Lakes. He served as mayor of Saginaw for two terms, sat on the board of regents for eight years, and ran for US Senate in 187, a campaign cut short by accusations of money mismanagement by Governor Warner.
