Bert Silvers family show on the lot east of Alma Roller Mills Monday evening impressed with trapeze horizontal bar and Japanese barrel rolling equal to past high standards. The concert after the regular show drew standing room only, proving the entertainment worth the admission.
Almanac style list of delegates to county conventions by ward and party. Republican delegates include first and second wards with names like D. L. Sharrer and J. Fuller. Democratic delegates list G. Bahike and others. Progressive and other ward groups named with multiple delegates.

Gratiot County voters cast ballots for sheriff treasurer and other county offices. Results show Nelson 271 over Ryder 1006, Bird Tucker 916, Romaine Clarks 615, Smith 134, Dickenson 75, Ellis 503, Bradford 265, Case 1909 congress and Fordney 1702, Damon 1649. Case wins by 348.

Progressive Governor H. BR Patengill and Lieut Governor J N McBride head the ticket alongside Congressman A L Chandler and State Senator S W Hopkins. Charles Kerr named Representative with Sheriff John H Parrish and County Clerk Earl Kuhlman and County Treasurer C J Davi. No candidates for Register of Deeds or Prosecuting Attorney. Drain Commissioner George S Young.
Chase Osborn of Sault Ste. Marie, former governor, won the Republican nomination for governor in the Michigan state wide primary. In 1,565 precincts he totaled 43,356 votes while Alexander J. Groesbeck stood second with 37,421 and Frederick C. Martindale had 37,105.

James A Lyons bachelor, living northeast of Riverdale, was found dead by neighbors Monday at 1 0 o clock August 24. He had not been seen since Thursday and likely died August 12 while shingles with Mrs Sibley. Dr Highfield diagnosed angina pectoris. Lyons, born July 6 1851 in New York, leaves sisters Harriet Baldwin and Amanda Hathaway. Justice Pugsley and Deputy Sheriff Helmar handled affairs until his sister arrived. Burial was hastily conducted Monday afternoon in Riverdale.
Miss Florence Hall of Elm Hall wed Melvin J. Budge at her parents’ home with Rev. J. E. Jacklin of Detroit officiating. About 90 guests attended as Bernice Tinker and Joe Hall served as bridesmaid and best man. Hattie Mille sang a solo.
Among the out of town guests were Mr and Mrs Budge of Coleman parents of the groom Mr and Mrs L Budge of Beaverton Mr and Mrs Stevens of Grand Rapids Mr and Mrs Henry Rice of Saginaw Miss Lena Potter of Ann Arbor Miss Gertrude Le Van of Saginaw and Mr Claude McFarren of Shepherd After the ceremony the bridal party left for Boyne City and other points in northern Michigan Mr and Mrs Budge will live in Coleman where he is Superintendent of Schools.
Union Telephone Company and Bell Telephone Company managers provided courtesies to newspaper men and citizens at city hall last Tuesday evening. The Union supplied a special operator and Manager Altman of Bell personally stayed on duty to secure returns from outlying townships.
About 200 people attended the Gleaners basket picnic in the city park on Friday. Mayor Cook gave the welcome, with John Livingstone of Detroit chairing the Grand Council and delivering the main address on cooperation. Recitations, readings, music by Forest Hill talent, and brief talks followed, highlighting strong state voices and community unity.
Over ten months the Detroit Clearing House sold binder twine at eight cents a pound, five carloads of paris green, 165 carloads of coal, and 10 000 small shipments direct from producers to consumers. William Harris, an officer of the Supreme Arbor, chaired the day of the event.
Alma won a unanimous vote to host the Annual Illinois Farmers' Picnic permanently. The second annual event opened with America sung by 400 plus attendees at the city park, followed by prayers, addresses, recitations, songs, and readings. J R Bateman was named president for the coming year with Frank E Boyd as secretary and treasurer. 377 guests registered, many from Gratiot and nearby counties.
A Gratiot County voter appreciation note from a Republican candidate thanking voters who selected him on August 25 for Sheriff. He pledges to serve to the best of his ability if elected in November.
Sunday morning service at 10 o'clock and Sunday school at 11 30 will be held in the United Brethren church. Messrs. Doherty and Crapo of Mt. Pleasant were Alma business visitors Monday.
The Seventh Day Adventists North Michigan Conference host a camp meeting at Island Park Mt Pleasant from August 20 to August 30. Headquarters in Petoskey, delegates from across the state discuss officers, plan growth, and focus on foreign missions. The year’s total missions funding is £586,240 with work spanning over ninety languages.
D W Robinson leaves Alma with his mother for a 10 day to two week business and pleasure journey through New York and Philadelphia. They will attend Claflin dry goods sale and return with a foremost dry goods and millinery line for Gratiot County.
Earle Laufman Holmes eldest son of Mr and Mrs Howard L Holmes died at midnight August 20 on his 20th birthday after five days illness and a last resort operation. He was a student at the local high school and a respected athlete and musician. He was active in Methodist church work and sang in the Wright Male Quartette and Alma College Glee Club. Funeral services were directed by Rev William Mason Sunday at 3 pm. He leaves his parents two sisters Ethel and Margaret and brothers Willard Robert and Donald.

He explains trust in a Luce clerk, effort to comply with government requirements, and subsequent flood of misfortune including a fire that crippled his finances and a timber sale to Naldrett.
