Albert Hudson and Miss Ruth Ellis were married in a ceremony attended by family and friends. The couple plan to reside in the city and start their life together following the nuptials.
Albert Hudson of the Page hardware circle wed Ruth Ellis in Holly Michigan. The ceremony at the bride’s home featured carnations and a bridal party including Henry Soule and Grace Filis. The couple began a two week honeymoon in Detroit Buffalo and Niagara Falls and will reside in Alma after September first.
James L Kress, son of former county clerk James G Kress who served four years, is age comparable to his father at election time in 1802 He studied at Ithaca Alma High schools and Ferris Institute Big Rapids His career focuses on clerical and office work promising to devote entire time to the office if elected and nominated.
Prosecuting Attorney nominee Maine Clark declares candidacy on the Republican ticket for the primaries set August 25, 1914. He appeals for vote and support from voters across the state.
The Bib lical Thanhouser four reel film Joseph In the Land of Egypt featuring James Cruse and Marguerite Snow was well attended at the Vaudette last night. Several Alma residents also attended Hagenbeck Wallace shows in Bay City on Saturday.

Osborn Groesbeck and Martindale supporters claim Gardner’s exit boosts their own chances while Osborn is seen as the chief beneficiary.
The Garden Club of Alma invites Gladiola growers to its Second Annual Gladiolas Show at Mr. Francis King’s home on Monday August 17 at 3:00 p.m. Entries are free, exhibits must be at King’s by 10:00 a.m. for judging. out of town entrants by 1:00 p.m. shows judging begins.
Edgar Decker about ten years old from near Shepherd was brought to the hospital in extremely serious condition after climbing a scaffold in an unfinished house. it broke, he fell, and struck the chair post causing severe injuries.
The Civic League sold 750 tickets at two dollars each, with 51 Alma volunteers guaranteeing the full proceeds to the Redpath Co. Ward leaders and Mrs Caple led the drive, adding over 150 extra tickets. More than $1,800 in season tickets were sold, praising 1914 Chautauqua as superior to 1913 with lectures by Ott Sprague Fike Kline Smith and the Ben Greet Players.
Five hundred sixty five workers at the Michigan Sugar Company plant near Winona Beach went on leave following a dispute over wages and overtime. Company officials say talks are ongoing with the local union to reach a settlement.

Born in Michigan, he lived in Caro and Alma, attended Alma College and the University of Michigan, and established law offices in St. Louis after returning to Gratiot county in 1913. Support comes from St. Louis citizens who know his ability.
A loyal crowd of about one hundred watched the Republics rout Ithaca six to three. Doc Barbou dominated the plate while Umpire Nelson called strikes. Ithaca muffed several plays as Alma hitters overwhelmed them with fast balls and aggressive base running.

Glenn Weidman of St Johns secures a dredging contract worth six dollars in a local bid. The award moves forward as officials approve the project and begin planning the operation in the port district.
E W Redman county drain commissioner accepted and awarded the dredging contract for drain No 06 Outlet Drain to Glen Weidman of St Johns. The bid is 7900 with about 5000 more for bridges and culverts, totaling roughly 15800. Work will start once the dredge is on site, draining Arcada Pine River and Seville townships and is among the county's largest projects. Nine bidders from Michigan and Indiana submitted certified checks.

A letter from B L Case as a political ad asks Emerson Shires and Fulton voters to approve a county tax plan and honor of the heat farming township. He notes twenty five years of residence and service and urges voters to consider the issue on August 25.
Miss Lois Fraker was guest of honor at a linen shower hosted Thursday at Mrs Laura Brown’s West Downie street home. Yellow gold decorations complemented the gifts including pillow slips towels napkins and other home articles while guests hemmed towels and socialized. Miss Fraker, Alma College graduate and former Alma Public Schools Latin instructor, has many Alma friends.
Alma Park in Alma hosts Big Gleaner Day on August 11 with a Farmers Basket Picnic. John Livingston, president of the Gleaner order, will give the afternoon address. Activities start 1 30 p m with sport, dancing and speaking. Lucy Bellemay, elocutionist from Detroit, appears. WM Harris District Overseer.

E W Redman announces he will seek re election as County Drain Commissioner in the August primary. He thanks supporters and asks for continued backing if his record meets approval. The council has awarded a bid to Consolidated Light and Power Co. for boulevard lighting and work has begun.
The annual Military Partners picnic will be held in the city park on Thursday August 20 drawing about 1000 members of farmer families across the county. The 1914 event promises the largest gathering yet with J R Bateman president, F Haine fing secretary and an executive committee arranging an attractive program. Featuring talent from former Ti nnis agriculturists, the program includes ball games field sports foot races and musical numbers. If rain appears the crowd will still enjoy the schedule under shelter.
Officials estimate 2000 to 2500 people would attend to see the Ben Greet players in Twelfth Night, noting Monday night’s performance schedule and venue.

An accident Friday near Emerson township killed Jerome DeWitt Eno when a runaway team dragged him from a wagon. The 47 year old man died Saturday morning from internal hemorrhages after being severely injured while repairing a fence with his brother Theodore. Eno, born in Ulster County New York, had lived in Michigan since 1876 and left a wife a son and siblings. He was a member of Edgewood Lodge and was widely known in the area.
