The Civic Improvement League reports a very satisfactory season ticket sale for Alma’s third annual Chautauqua. Audiences can expect a high quality lineup with readings by Sylvester Long and Frank Dixon’s lectures on civic life. Upcoming events include theater by The Servant in the House and additional performances as the schedule tightens.

Bruske Transfer to Detroit Office Manager Posts

Paul Bruske, longtime Maxwell racing chief, is moved from contest management to a Detroit factory role overseeing the companys newspaper work after Maxwell withdrawals. He previously led the Maxwell team from January until its disbanding and had prior Stude baker advertising and newspaper experience. Local Alma people know him from college days and the Alma Times editorship as his rise in automotive media continued. A picnic program at Wright Park featuring speakers and community chefs is planned for Groty county residents on the 21st with large local attendance expected.

Will Griffin New Manager for Alma Grain and Lumber Co

Will Griffin was confirmed as manager at a Wednesday directors meeting of Alma Grain and Lumber Co. Griffin succeeds Patten who resigned. Jotham Allen was re elected president, Mrs ACW Wright elected vice president, Henry McCormick secretary, and J A Sharp treasurer. The firm reported yearly sales over three hundred thousand dollars and approved purchasing a new generator for the electrical department as part of a planned overhaul. Griffin, previously head accountant at the Alma plant of Michigan Sugar Co, comes highly recommended with up to date business expertise.

Rural Carrier Examination in Gratiot County Michigan

Rain Spoils Eighth Annual Sunday School Excursion

An weekend rainstorm disrupted the Ann Arbor Sunday School excursion to Traverse City. Though organizers expected 2500 participants, only 150 from Alma joined, despite an excellent railroad concession. Henry Soule Secures Howell Contract for Two State Buildings

Henry Soule of this city won the bid to construct two state home for consumptives buildings at Howell. The total project cost is about twenty five thousand dollars. One addition is a red brick block measuring 125 by 40 feet with a full length porch. The plan features no plaster in most rooms and no heating connections except in attendants’ areas. The other building, 120 by 50 feet, will house consumptive children with a curing wing and work on the project is expected to start soon, with completion targeted within a year.

Moody Reunion of the School 1862 65 in St Louis

The Annual Moody Reunion will be held in St Louis on Friday August 20 on the High School grounds in the grove. In bad weather it moves to the school building or the Christian Church near the grove. St Louis Breckenridge Trotting Matinee August 19
