Gratiot County lawyers and their wives met at Crystal to form a county bar association with Geo H Stone as president John Mathews as secretary and W A Bahlke as treasurer. Fire destroys Johnston home in Monmouth Oregon
The Monmouth Oregon Herald reports that J. P. Johnston’s house burned after a gasoline tank exploded in the woolshed. Fire crews saved most furniture, but the loss exceeds $2,500, not covered by insurance. Johnston, a well known local resident, had been testing an invention for gas heating and lighting.
