Caboose and Engine Wreck Near Park Street
Last Thursday a special freight collided with a caboose near the depot as a freight train cleared the curve. Engine No. 820 lost a stack headlight and cow catcher, with front wheels buried in sand. Pere Marquette 177 and Ann Arbor 157 helped move the wrecked caboose to Ed Winns Garden before Sag inaw wrecking crews removed it. A delivery rig lost its driver in the excitement near Superior Street.

State to Borrow 250000 for Five Month Salaries

Home From Iowa Beets Trade Run For Alma Manager
Jotham Allen general manager of the Alma branch of the Michigan Sugar Co returned home Thursday night from a business trip through central and eastern Iowa. He found that region a great beet country though Iowa has only one sugar factory at Waverly. Land costs 75 to 100 dollars per acre for corn oats barley or hay. Allen addressed a farmers gathering at Waverly and enjoyed a barbecue arranged for the occasion.
