Democrats of Gratiot County Hear Nominees for County Offices

At the July 27 meeting in the county seat the Gratiot Democrats discussed candidates for county offices. Likely sheriffs contender is John Rowell of Ithaca, clerk Newton Burns of Bethany, treasurer Janes Gibbs of Newark, register of deeds Wm. L. Hutchinson of Sumner, and state representative Dewitt Vought of Alma. Petitions close August 22.

Alberta Wood weds Bruce Stevenson in intimate Pine River ceremony

A pretty home wedding was held Saturday evening at the home of Daniel Wood in Pine River with Alberta Wood uniting in marriage to Bruce Stevenson of Ashley. Rev Beebe officiated. Only immediate family attended. Alberta has lived in Gratiot county most of her life and Bruce is a promising farmer from Ashley. The couple left Sunday for Ashley and received the best wishes of many friends.

Farmer's Picnic Ties Local Clubs to Gleaners Aid

The Seville and Sumner Farmers Clubs with the Gleaners of Elwell sponsor an annual picnic in Wiley's grove on Thursday August 11 110. Plan a day off after the harvest to enjoy baskets with children and friends. Senator Jason Woodman of Paw Paw will address the crowd. Keep the date and attend.

Breckenridge principal choice for Sumner school, Mr Coldthorp. Local residents Emery Mulford visited near St Louis last week. Mrs Fullerton of Howell visiting Clow family. Several residents including Dr Graham Clow and Mrs Fullerton attended events in Ithaca. Visits to and from Alma, Crystal, Lansing, and Forest Hill noted among many residents. Various locals traveled for schoolhouse shingles, business, and family visits across town and surrounding cities.

Michigan State Automobile association with headquarters in Grand Rapids will place 844 wool signs on ten foot angle iron posts along major routes from Grand Rapids to Detroit Holland Kalamazoo and from Detroit to Saginaw via Flint Pontiac and to South Bend Ind Signs will mark turns and railroad crossings with a total cost of 2500 The project begins Tuesday August dth and will run about six weeks Two men and a track car will handle the work after routes were driven and mileage checked to ensure precision for travelers to reach any destination by following signs

Charlevoix Berry Raid Receipts Reported

In Charlevoix township, George Durance harvested over seven thousand five hundred and twelve strawberry boxes at twelve and a half cents per box plus ninety crates at 1.25 each. Receipts from the season show large berry totals and notable earnings. Mrs BR W Ellion spent a few days in Toledo after leaving Tuesday.

Judge Kelley Sears to Review Election Testimony in John Doe Case

Judge Kelley Sears of Ithaca will review testimony in the John Doe case to determine possible irregularities in April election returns. Judges Gage and Kendrick declined to act, citing method of nominating circuit judge candidates. Dastardly Attack Destroys Threshing Outfit North of St Louis

Henry McArthur bought a new threshing outfit and operated it Monday with two loads of grain. Early Tuesday an explosion destroyed the machine and burned the straw stack but saved three workers. Loss is heavy. owner will replace the outfit soon. Eara Smith and son Donald were at Crystal Lake Wednesday.
