Breckenridge Counterfeit Suspect Arrested in Alma Case

Purl Chaffee, a 35 year old farmer near Breckenridge, was arrested in a Raginaw store on suspicion of passing counterfeit money. He faces charges of circulating large denomination notes and awaits grand jury action on a $5,000 bail. Four Alma storekeepers were victims in the case. Deputy U S Marshal H J Haler served subpoenas in Alma.

Salvation Army Meetings Planned With New Soldiers

Ralph Ely complimented by Santa Fe School board invitation

The Santa Fe School board extended to Ralph Ely the invitation to deliver the commencement address to high school graduates. The Taos County commissioners voted to appropriate funds to pay a firm demonstrator, following Ely’s advocacy and activities. Ely, “The Silver Tongued Orator,” led a party of agricultural experts from the state college through the Estancia valley to promote scientific farm development and the demonstrator plan.

Five Alma Men Attend Stag Party at Fred Slater’s Store

A Friday evening stag party at Fred Slater’s store drew men including Mennis, Charles Ward, J. W. Blakely, Dr. Cyrus B. Gardner and C. C. Gerber. Entertainment was card games for two hours followed by refreshments. Supplies included spirits, pickles, olives, coffee and ice cream. The group enjoyed a social time and cordial atmosphere.

Alma Public Schools to retain Supt Schultz staff next year

Alma's school board keeps the current teaching corps with Supt Schultz to lead again. The high school’s Michigan University recognized performance backs the choice as the district fills one vacancy and lists 24 teachers, including principals, department heads, and grade instructors.
