Alma boosters report record activity on Booster Day with merchants claiming standout sales across many lines. Reports list large purchases while a city notice details a May 17 review of tax assessments by the Board of Review in Alma Michigan.
Governor Woodbridge N Ferris proclaims May 7 1915 Arbor and Bird Day in Michigan urging schools and institutions to plant trees and hold activities to promote tree and bird protection. Official designation dated April 21 1915 with seal and secretary Coleman Vaughan.
Article highlights Dr and Mrs Frederick J Soule and Grace Kirby directing Warner House in Baltimore settlement work. Alma High School eyes track glory with veterans and new faces. Bay City match ends in a 2 to 2 tie after seven innings as Alma’s Lutchman led on the mound with five strikeouts and five hits allowed. The squad, coached by Lachman, prepares for Mt Pleasant and St Louis interscholastic events while noting standout Smith Handley and Muscott among key returnees. The May Festival at University of Michigan in Hill Auditorium features Leonora Allen and John McCormack among a large ensemble of stars with the University Choral Union and ensembles under Stock and Renwick.
Local Salvation Army corps will hold public services at the Hall Saturday and Sunday evening. Five new soldiers will be enrolled and special addresses will be delivered by out of town speakers. Music will be provided by groups from Mt Pleasant.

The Santa Fe School board extended to Ralph Ely the invitation to deliver the commencement address to high school graduates. The Taos County commissioners voted to appropriate funds to pay a firm demonstrator, following Ely’s advocacy and activities. Ely, “The Silver Tongued Orator,” led a party of agricultural experts from the state college through the Estancia valley to promote scientific farm development and the demonstrator plan.
Reginald McClinton and Helen Doane, both of this city, wed in Toledo after a court marriage. He is son of former Alma mayor Nelson F. McClinton and plans medical studies. she is daughter of E. Hy Tinga and an Alma High School graduate and aspiring contralto. They expect a honeymoon in Denver.
Card of Thanks expresses deep gratitude to neighbors friends and local societies for support after bereavement and lists names Rev Meese and Rev Carl for comfort. Also notes Ann Arbor Railroad Toledo excursion May 2 with special train Alma 601 AM and return at 8 PM fare 1.75 dollars.
The Seville and Sumner farmers club will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Gee on Thursday, May 6. The program includes prayer, welcome address by Bert Gee, minutes of last meeting, roll call on current events, music by Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, a talk by Mr. James Gargett on "The Social Side of Barn Life" with Mine Teresa Coe, a questing box, and a song performed by the club.
Johns Episcopal Church corner of W Superior and Wright Ave offers Sunday Morning Prayer at 10:00 a.m. Sunday School at 11:20 a.m. Vesper Service at 5:00 p.m. Holy Communion on first Sunday at 10:00 a.m. and third Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday services as announced. A list of names including A H Brown G A Heis Lois Morgan and Mary Sandy is published as advertised letters. Those not called for will be sent to the Dead Letter Office on May 10 1915 per Postmaster V P B Cash.
A Friday evening stag party at Fred Slater’s store drew men including Mennis, Charles Ward, J. W. Blakely, Dr. Cyrus B. Gardner and C. C. Gerber. Entertainment was card games for two hours followed by refreshments. Supplies included spirits, pickles, olives, coffee and ice cream. The group enjoyed a social time and cordial atmosphere.
A note invites interested residents to attend a meeting at rdones pativoa Paroni to discuss organizing a Sun cay School. The aim is to gather supporters and make the venture succeed. Meeting planned for 2 PM. Also an ad offers a high grade piano for sale at half price via R BE.
Alma's school board keeps the current teaching corps with Supt Schultz to lead again. The high school’s Michigan University recognized performance backs the choice as the district fills one vacancy and lists 24 teachers, including principals, department heads, and grade instructors. The Breckenridge American reports the gas company expansion to supply Alma, Ithaca, Wheeler, and Merrill with a new storage and pressure tank and new mains from Alma to Ithaca.
Clyde S Hendricks, noted trap drummer with Alma college and city bands, wed Miss Della Mae Roger at Rev Frank Jackson's home on Wright Ave Thursday evening. The couple, former Stanton residents, will reside at 34 South Gratiot Ave, sharing new housekeeping. The bride and groom are linked to Libby McNeill Libby firm, which has Alma as its central Michigan HQ.
A newly formed William Alden Smith For President Club held a Lansing gathering to urge Rep Patrick H for the Republican nomination. The event drew lawmakers state officers and supporters from Michigan, aiming to propel Smith’s presidential bid.
