William Miller Granted Verdict In Rail Road Injury Suit

William Miller of this city was awarded $800 by a circuit court jury against the Ann Arbor Railroad Company in a long, contested case arising from a September accident south of Alma near Church’s crossing. Miller, a former foreman, sued under the Federal Employers Liability Act after a collision with a gasoline car brake failure. The trial spanned over a week with expert medical testimony, and the jury deliberated twelve hours before returning the verdict around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Apple Pie Contest At Gas Company Office

On May 5 at 9230 pm the domestic science class of the high school hosts a unique apple pie contest. Gratiot County Gas Co funds prizes for the best pies, with auction proceeds benefiting domestic science equipment. Entrants are from 8-A section, judged by Miss Dunlap, Miss Jennie Smith, and Prof Behults.

Caris Brown of Alma and Mrs. Mini Rosinsky of Manitowoc Wisconsin married last Tuesday at the bride's brother Chas Rober's home in Charlevoix. Rev Clinton Walker of Charlevoix Methodist church officiated. The couple plan to reside at 414 Gratiot Avenue upon returning to Alma. Dick Brown longtime Alma printer and editor, worked with C P Brown at the Record shop years ago and later with the Alma Journal. Last Friday evening the Oliver negative team lost to the Alma affirmative team in a city debate. The Alma team also defeated Hope at Holland, with Prof. Hedges praising both teams for their excellent work and deserving credit.

Locals Defeat Ithaca at Ithaca Fairgrounds

Alma high school defeated Ithaca at the fairgrounds with a 7 to 1 score. The contest ended early after rain halted play in the seventh inning. Local pitcher Allen held the Ithaca bats in check, allowing no late rally.
