The College Nine defeated Mt Pleasant Indians 8 to 4 in a varsity baseball game. The contest featured strong pitching and timely hitting from both sides at the home field.

Kodol Almanac Free at Alma Pharmacy

The Record reports Chas Rhodes pharmacy will distribute the 1997 Kodol Almanac and Two Hundred Year Calendar from E C DeWitt & Co of Chicago. Fire at Grand Central Hotel on Superior Street

A roof fire broke out Sunday near noon at the Grand Central a frame hotel on Superior Street. High winds hampered early detection but nearby residents and the quick fire department response prevented a major blaze. Cause reported as a defective chimney.

International Peace Conference Report From New York

Dr Bruske returned from the National Pence and Arbitration conference in New York noting many prominent men and crowded hotels. He says Mr Carnegie is not a great talker and no definite business occurred. Bruske left the city Wednesday afternoon after missing the Roosevelt event, noting four banquets were required to accommodate all attendees.

Death of Mrs C B Fisher in Gratiot County

Mrs Calvin B Fisher aged 76 born Mary Rhodes in Saratoga County New York June 9 1836 married in 1849. She lived on a Seville township farm since 1855 and after her husband died in 1886 mostly resided in Alma. She leaves fourteen children eight living and three sisters. Funeral at Elwell with large attendance, burial at Prichard Cemetery.

Fire destroys McLaren residence on Centre and Maple

A fire at the McLaren home corner Centre Street and Maple Avenue last Saturday morning caused heavy damage. It began in the roof from a defective chimney and spread quickly. firefighters battled the blaze, removing some goods from the first floor while upstairs contents were ruined by fire and water. The roof, siding, and upright were damaged, and plastering must be redone. Insurance coverage was $1,900.

Poor Man's Loss as Barn Burns in Sumner Area

Ben Bechtel of a treated farm one mile east and half south of Sumner faced disaster last Monday at noon when a brush fire he started spread to his barn. Reception Honors Mr and Mrs George Taylor at Conins Home

Members of the M E Church and Epworth League hosted a reception for Mr and Mrs George Taylor at the C L Conins residence last evening. The event ran from five to ten with many attendees and fine musical selections. Mr Taylor departs for Aberdeen Washington next Thursday and Mrs Taylor will join him later as they plan to make Washington their future home.

Mail delivery starts in Alma with new routes

On Wednesday May 1 the citizens of Alma gain free mail delivery. Carriers drew lots for routes with Lars Porter taking Bowle No 1 covering the south side of Superior Street W S Hollenbeck taking No 2 for the north side of Superior Street and Mr Callahan assigned Superior Street for Woodward Avenue. The city is divided among the three cashiers.

A meeting to form a Civic Improvement Association for Alma will be held in the Wright House parlors on Thursday May 2 at 5 pm. All women interested in the citys cleanliness and beauty are urged to attend. The notice also mentions Convie & Comvic inviting inquiries about new furniture lines.

Chas K Densmore aged 82 died April 6 1907 at his Sumner home after a long illness. Born January 1826 in Lydun Maine he moved to Michigan as a child and spent most of his life in Jackson County near Hanover where a large farm once stood. The People vs Joe Hubbard pled guilty to resisting an officer and was fined 25 dollars. The People vs Peter Martin was fined 40 dollars for liquor law violation. The People vs James Odell and Henry Odell were in a burglary trial.
