Alma women host Governors suite gathering at Downey Hotel
Mrs. Vroneis Ring of Alma entertained about 73 guests including wives of state senators and officials in the Governors suite at the Hotel Downey Lansing. Mrs. Francis King of Alma presided with hospitality extended by numerous Alma women. Glee club from Alma College performed a varied program in the red drawing room and dining rooms amid spring flowers and cordial tea service.

A Model Bakery Opens in Alma at 118 West Superior
Ch Smith, newcomer from Reed City, has moved his entire bakery plant into the former Gray & Gray shop at 1146 West Superior street. The business operates with 18 years in the trade, a modern electric mixer handling up to one and one half barrels every twenty minutes, and a dough kneading machine run by electricity. Emma Allen oversees sales and the ice parlor, inviting the public to visit the revamped store at 118 West Superior Street.

Prize Story Competition Promoted by Detroit Club
The Twentieth Century Club of Detroit offers two prizes of 20 dollars each for anti cigarette stories about 2000 words. One targets boys and the other girls. Submissions due by November 1, 1914 to Mrs. O. E. Angatman. Meritorious non winning entries may be purchased. A bibliography will be issued for stamps. Alma College Glee Club returned from a central state tour with praise and encores. A future shame concert is planned.

Alma High School Class of 1910 Reunion Notes
Eight members of the class of 1910 of Alma High School gathered at Paul Morgan’s Court street home for a reunion. The house was decorated in royal purple and white the class colors, and memories of school days and later life were shared. A three course Hinchcon was served and white roses used for favors. On a bright election day, three tickets competed and supporters urged strong participation across Alma and surrounding townships. Loyal Order of Moose members and friends enjoyed a banquet last Tuesday in the Order’s dining rooms. Professor Walter Barrows of Michigan Agricultural College will lecture on Our Native Birds at 8 p.m. Monday April 14 in the College chapel. Admission is free. Excellent Address By Dr Cadman Puritan of Two Worlds
Dr Cadman delivered a Last Thursday address tracing the Puritan lineage from Greece and Rome through Continental Europe to the Netherlands and Belgium. He argued war never settled moral issues, praised Puritan contributions to literature, art, and statesmanship, and urged America to seek regeneration over culture alone.
