Fourth Ward Race Shapes City Election Outcome
A light city election turnout produced Nelson F McClinton as mayor after a tight contest with the Montigel faction. Democrats held a string of wins across wards and ticketed offices, while amendments carried narrowly.

Emma J Willard Vermulen died Sunday in Phoenix Arizona after a life largely spent in Gratiot and Alma Michigan. Born February 1807 in New York state she moved to Alma with her parents as a child and lived there many years. She married Henry J Vermulen in October 1850 and later went south for tuberculosis treatment. Surviving him is their son Fred W. Vermulen who accompanied her remains back to Alma for burial in Riverside cemetery. Burial will follow at Riverside with services at her brother Howard Willard’s home.

Obituary of Samuel Adams of Forest Hill near Mieb Ohio
Samuel Adams born February 6 1885 in Ohio died March 1910 at home near Forest Hill Michigan aged twenty five one month and twenty two days married to Sarah Lay December 12 1858. They had nine children four alive at his death. He moved from Ohio to Michigan in 1870s, bought land and built a home. A kind husband father neighbor and Christian man with an aged wife four children sixteen grandchildren and other relatives mourning. Funeral at home led by Rev A Noflsinger Forest Hill Church of Christ. Interment in Wrights Cemetery.

Walters-Woodland Wedding Held at Pine Avenue Home
A quiet wedding took place last Thursday evening at the bride’s mother’s home on Pine Ave as Olea Walthers wed Mr. Woodland. Rev Sawyer officiated for immediate family. The couple left that night for Saginaw to a furnished home awaiting them. Mrs Woodland has lived in Alma and is noted for her cheerful ways. The Record extends congratulations.

Becker heads to Missouri to plant strawberries
After selling his oil business to Charles Plowman in Alma, Mr W 8 Becker departed for Anderson Missouri on Tuesday to plant a five acre strawberry patch. He has bought ten acres nearby and expects growth for the area. His land adjoins parcels previously purchased by George Partons LN Baker W 8 B Amsbury and other local residents.
