Death of Wm T Pitt after short illness in Seville Township
William T Pitt died Saturday afternoon from pneumonia after visiting friends in the south part of the state. He was born in 1641 in a jog house near South Lyon, Michigan, and lived most of his life on a farm in Seville township. He was a horticulturist and former Gratiot County Farmers' Institute president, with a long record in public service and peach orchard development. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Seville Center church, with Rev. Whitley officiating and a large county turnout paying last respects.

Fire destroys Whitman farm house in Arcada Township
Last Friday around eleven o clock the Leroy Whitman residence near Alma sugar factory in Arcada Township burned to the ground. Neighbors and friends tried to help but the building and contents were completely destroyed. Whitman held $900 insurance on the structure and $600 on the contents to partly cover the loss. The Whitmans express sincere thanks to the many friends and neighbors who aided during the fire.

Easter Mailbox Eggs Surprise Alia Route Carriers
Nearly 200 dozen items delivered on five city routes included eggs placed in mailboxes by patrons. Charles Harlock led No 5 with HY eggs as thankful residents honored carriers for prompt service. Nine Cottages Burn At Crystal Lake Fire Destroys Nine Cottages
A blaze at Crystal Lake last Thursday destroyed nine cottages and contents worth about 15 500. The fire started in A E Pinney’s cottage, likely from mice or squirrels chewing matches, with a strong wind aiding spread. One cottage survived, that of Judge KS Searles, while residents formed a bucket brigade to fight the flames. Owners listed include Eugene Parr, Isaac Altenburg, A E Pinney, Mrs Sage, Otto Mew, George Richardson, J N McCall, Wo M Heron, and Hewitt and Bullin. Each cottage valued at 1 200 with contents valued 200 to 800. Insurance varied 150 to 400.
