Governor bars rugby match in Albany over riot risk
Governor Hugh Carey announced that the planned South African Springboks rugby game at Albany’s Bleecker Stadium is canceled citing imminent danger of riot. Mayor Erastus Corning II and NAACP leader Clara Satterfield spoke on rally security while private guards would patrol inside the stadium.

State's roads bridges not aging gracefully
ALBANY AP Some of New York's public works are aging poorly and not aging gracefully or cheaply. Assembly Speaker Stanley Fink says roads bridges waterways and other facilities vary from very bad to worse at the opening of a two day infrastructure seminar. Gov Hugh Carey agrees financing maintenance and new capital projects is a major problem and cautions against pork barrel projects. He blames Reagan administration high interest rates for costly long term borrowing and urges focus on maintaining and improving existing systems. Panelist Gail Garfield Schwartz notes tax exempt municipal bonds are less attractive with new shelters.

Warner aide indicted in bribe case tied to theater stock
Solomon Weiss, 52, assistant treasurer of Warner Communications, was indicted on 18 counts for allegedly taking about 170000 in bribes to push Warner to buy 40000 shares for the Westchester Premier Theater project and for siphoning approximately 221950 from Warner between 1973 and 1978 during the theater’s bankruptcy probe. The theater opened in 1973 with reputed Mafia figures present. Weiss is from Hillside New Jersey and is the third Warner executive charged in the investigation.
