Local official warns after state Medicaid takeover plan
Robert Mullane of the Central New York School Boards Association warns that Gov. Carey's proposed state takeover of local Medicaid costs could cost up to 8 billion over six years, reduce education funding, and shift the burden to state taxpayers and local governments like Onondaga County. He urged continued opposition and warned poorer districts could go broke if funds are diverted.

Albany budget shifts threaten local programs and school cuts
Albany Update reports that local property tax relief may be required to cover gaps as a Senate plan eliminates the distinction between mandatory and non mandatory school budget items. The bill would allow boards to cut non essential items and limit budget votes, while Senate talks also cover cemetery development funds, lake protection districts, and tax exemptions for drugs used in animal treatment.
