Neighbors Help Capture Buffalo Prowler After Dawn Chase

In Buffalo, about 50 neighbors including a 70 year old woman joined dawn pursuit of a ski masked intruder inside the Lamparelli home. Officer Reinig fired a warning shot. the suspect John O Sullivan, 28, was captured nearby and charged with burglary assault resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. The victim family had faced two months of threatening calls from the suspect claiming to be from the Dark and The Man from Iaw.

Secret Service arrests suspect near Reagan speech

Secret Service agents arrested a 23 year old man at Stewart Airport and seized a .45 caliber handgun as President Reagan spoke at the U S Military Academy nearby. Richard Anthony Kubiscek of Fort Hood, Texas, said to be a fugitive from North Carolina weapons theft charges, was taken into custody after Schoharie town clerk Joan Cummings notified military police at West Point.

Ossining prison renovation approved by Albany leaders

Gov. Carey and legislative leaders agreed to revamp Ossining prison to add about 600 beds, outlining a $24.6 million plan. The deal pledges Ossining’s closure by 1987 unless the Commission of Correction finds harm in closing early.

Pulitzer winner Waldron dies at 56 in New Jersey

Martin O. Waldron, a St. Petersburg Times reporter whose work earned four Pulitzers, and later chief of The New York Times Trenton bureau, died of heart disease at his home in Hightstown New Jersey aged 56. He had a long history of heart trouble and fell seriously ill last year.
