Reagan budget fight continues with tax cut clash
Reagan administration pushes for a 30 percent across the board personal income tax cut over three years while Congress debates compromise limits. Treasury chief Regan warns of no compromise on the plan though he leaves room for adjustments to meet the goal. House backs an $18.6 billion supplemental defense and social cut budget, adding military spending and abortion restrictions. Senate moves toward a record defense package and revives covert Angola operation repeal talks. Multiple committees trim or reallocate funds across defense, foreign affairs, agriculture, and consumer safety agencies as Stockman defends needed funding.
