Five million taxpayers face small cuts this year up to ten dollars while next year sees larger individual relief alongside business tax cuts totaling about 330 million annually when fully phased in. The 16.6 billion state budget also raises dozens of fees including marriage licenses.
Albany AP reports a new 16.6 billion budget will resume income tax refunds to about 2.4 million filers after postage shortages. The plan boosts exemptions to 800 dollars, expands household credits, and offers pension tax relief, with pilots for private pensions up to 20,000 exempt from state taxes starting 1982. Investments tax credit rises to 5 percent on June 1 and 6 percent on July 1, 1982, aiding roughly 35,000 businesses with potential annual savings up to 51 million.
