Ex police chief Harry J. Hunt 76 was critically injured in a Gulf of Mexico boat explosion 85 miles off Pass-a-Grille Florida. Five companions on a 47 foot cruiser were aboard when gasoline fumes in the bilge ignited as engines were started. Hunt's two sons Dr H Roland Hunt and Dr Stacy R Hunt flew to his bedside. The party had been on a weekly fishing trip from a St. Petersburg ship yard operator Robert Ausineau's vessel.

Charles A. Coleman, 64, of 215 Park Ave, Syracuse, was killed when a freight train struck his car at the Knowell Road crossing on Camillus Road. The collision pushed the car 323 feet. Coleman died of a crushed chest and spine. He worked at Crucible Steel and leaves a daughter, a son, four grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers, and several nieces and nephews.
