Mir Space Station Ends Graceful Descent to Ocean
Mir, launched Feb 1986, will crash into the Pacific March 20 after years in orbit. Russian officials plan a controlled reentry to minimize risk while highlighting Mir as a symbol of space power and collaboration with the United States. Discovery and a Progress booster facilitated crew exchanges and preparations for future modules and robotic arms.
