Calf sale under FDA USDA review faces loan risk
About 100 veal calves cleared for sale by FDA and USDA. Final 100 tests pending. Conhaim says calves were older than premium stock and received below normal price. FDA testing costs capped at 350 per calf due to a court order. FMHA cash advances kept calves from starvation while tests proceed. Conhaim faces grave finances and possible loan repayment doubts. FMHA plans no immediate action, awaiting Conhaim’s repayment proposal.
