Alexander's big switch on pensions in Syracuse

Mayor Lee Alexander reversed his position and now backs increased benefits for the old city police and firefighters pension plan, funded by higher parking rates at three downtown garages. The move follows a veto threat and a council push to grant the pension hike. The plan would cost about $47,000 more this year, funded partly by Hancock Airport employee permits and higher fees at Sibley’s North and Hotel Syracuse garages.
