Dredging Halt Traps Boats On New York Barge Canal
Pleasure boats have run aground as dredging stopped in a dispute between state and federal authorities on the New York State Barge Canal. The Army Corps halted permits while seeking assurances from Albany to comply with rules, clogging the western end near the Genesee River in Rochester and prompting some boats to detour via Lake Ontario. An agreement to resume dredging was reportedly reached, with officials expecting no immediate delay.
