Zone patrols promise citywide police reform option
Zone patrol would place policing under a 24 hour geographic system with three four or five zone models under study. A three zone model with precinct houses is most discussed but five zones may better fit long term needs. Deputy officials stress delegation of decisions to zone commanders and closer ties with communities to reduce police isolation and improve responsiveness. Costs and funding sources remain unsettled as studies are not public and locations for precinct houses are undecided.
