Designers leverage computers as homes shrink and redesigns rise
Interior designers report a surge in business despite builders and architects facing hard times. A spring survey of 2,000 members by the American Society of Interior Designers shows two thirds saw growth since 1980, averaging 32 percent, with 24 percent overall. Many redesign spaces to maximize small homes, while 48 percent work on additions. Computers and high tech gear increasingly enter homes, a shift from 1980 when only 2 percent pursued such work.
