Artful craft: Nancy May builds warm Northeast tableware
Since starting production pottery 15 years ago Nancy May has made thousands of pitchers platters mugs bowls and casseroles enjoyed from New York to New England. Now based in Syracuse she works from a Comstock Avenue studio firing locally built wares in a gas kiln that holds 50 to 75 pots. Each piece is hand formed or wheel thrown and fired twice to bisque and glaze. Glaze firings reach 2300 degrees and require over 24 hours to cool before unloading.
