Widow to undergo major surgery after Rome assassination bid

Ann Odre, 58, the Buffalo widow shot in Rome during the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II, was to undergo major surgery late today at Buffalo General Hospital. Doctors said she may need an operation to clear an abdominal infection from the wound, but the spokeswoman offered no further details.
