Uniform card size plan targets greeting cards in mail
The Postal Service will restrict envelope sizes effective April 15 1978. Smaller than spec envelopes banished and larger ones face a later surcharge set by the Rate Commission. Most current envelopes fit, but greeting cards with varied shapes will be hit hard. A 12 cent first class mail discount for large business mailers sorting their own mail begins July 6. The program aims to cut costs and attract patrons back to the service.
