Fires raged across Colorado and Idaho burning thousands of acres of range and forest. In Idaho 6 000 acres burned near Wendell as 64 firefighters with 10 water trucks and two aircraft fought the blaze. Two large suspected arson fires in southern Idaho covered 16 600 and 3 800 acres near Bruneau and Castleford. In Colorado two blazes on BLM land charred about 1 400 acres as hot dry winds hampered efforts. Overall more than 2 000 acres were on fire statewide in a dozen blazes believed started by weekend lightning.
