Temporary Massachusetts payroll OK'd by governor amid strike end
Massachusetts state employees halted a four day strike and returned to duties after Gov. Edward J. King signed a temporary payroll bill. The $85 million measure funds debts to more than 200,000 workers, welfare recipients and pensioners through today, with national guardsmen assisting in facilities during the transition. The full $6.3 billion budget remains stalled in the Legislature as leaders report progress on property tax relief amid lingering disagreements.
