More than 4 million receive disability benefits, with about 2.3 million under the separate poverty-based program.
U.S. District Judge Thomas B. Jackson agreed to advise on a dispute over the use of the initials NAACP between the main civil rights group and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. The fund, created in 1939, separated from the NAACP in 1957 amid tax exemption concerns.
