Reagan meets anti abortion leaders in push for ban
President Reagan met with anti abortion leaders to back a constitutional amendment banning abortion as about 50 000 foes marched on Congress in a bid to move the issue forward. Central New York delegates joined the rally from Syracuse and returned early today. The organizers said they expect Congress to pass the amendment this session while abortion rights groups warned of setbacks to birth control. Leaders said Reagan offered no new commitment but many expect his attendance at next year’s march.

Nixon tapes urged to stay confidential by former president's lawyer
Richard Nixon's lawyer asked the U S Court of Appeals to keep Oval Office tapes confidential unless the government proves each tape non confidential. Mortenson pushed a presumption of privilege for idle conversations while government lawyers warned a transcription burden would be enormous. The dispute stems from Congress actions seizing tapes and White House papers under the Presidential Recordings act.
