Feldstein declares support for Reagan amid White House pressure

UPI reports Martin Feldstein, Reagan's top economic adviser, says he fully backs the president's program and considers himself a team player despite tension over his criticism of defense spending and tax cuts. Officials say his dissent was noted but he is not fired, and he plans to return to Harvard next fall. Feldstein warns against overstating disagreements while acknowledging looming deficits and the need for a balance of spending cuts and tax increases.

Groups land end to squeal rule in birth control case

Washington groups cheered when the Reagan administration decided not to seek Supreme Court review of the so called squeal rule, ending efforts to force federally funded clinics to notify parents within 10 days when daughters under 18 received birth control. Officials cited no reason for the decision. The policy would have impacted about 5,000 clinics and over 400,000 adolescent patients nationwide.

Strikers may ease demands in Greyhound talks

Washington AP reports striking Greyhound workers near a softened bargaining stance in strategy sessions at a downtown hotel. About 12,700 drivers mechanics and terminal workers began a Nov 2 walkout over pay cuts, rejecting a 7.8 percent offer last week. Greyhound chair John Teets vowed to hire replacements and boost service, now at about 10 percent of pre-strike levels.
