County eyed spray irrigation to lift moratorium
Roger Thorpe, regional engineer, says review will take at least several days and cannot confirm if 137,000 gallons per day more capacity would lift the moratorium. The county cites 82,458 unused gallons from Arthur Farms, plus 55,000 more from Ramada Inn hookup, and 75,000 from the Ramada plant, with motel reserving 20,000. A public hearing on doubling Ramada capacity is set for Oct. 27 amid opposition from Neuse River Foundation.

The case stems from Gov. Campbell’s challenge to the Energy Department’s review process and involves 409 spent fuel rods from European reactors slated for U S storage.
