Frightened Horse Causes Fatal Runaway Accident
Mrs Lawson Smith of Jefferson Township near Little Giant died from a fractured skull after a runaway horse pulled a buggy into a street collision. Her husband Mr Smith leapt to control the horse, and she was later attended by Drs Lowder and Dukes before dying at 9 PM Saturday.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Carlisle Christian church for Claud A. Ellis a Carlisle resident and inventor of a steel kitchen cabinet. Interment followed at the Odd Fellows cemetery. He was born November 17 1867 and died October 2 1913 after years of ill health leaving a widow two sons Orlando and Stanley a daughter Luisa and several siblings with numerous lodge affiliations.

A 35 hp Westcott car driven by Hud C. Hughes was destroyed by fire Thursday afternoon between this city and Shelburn. Suspected backfire in the carburetor caused the blaze which could not be checked. The machine, owned by Westcott, was a demonstration unit valued at 1950 dollars and fully insured.

Largest crowd attends Saturday fair and a Jefferson township pioneer dies
The largest crowd of the season attended the Saturday fair on the east side of the square. The ladies drive contest was called off for lack of entries. Will W. Watson exhibited two 900 pound nine month old Duroc Jerseys and won multiple premiums. Uncle John Wellington, a Jefferson township pioneer born in 1831, died September 23 at his son’s Pleasantville home. He helped organize the Christian church, served as elder, and was a lifelong Republican and former justice of the peace. Funeral at Bethany church with Rev. Charles Neal officiating.

Orville Shiveley a 30 year old driller from St Marys Ohio was killed instantly on the Roy Osborne farm in Curry township. He was struck by a crank shaft while workers wound up a sand line. Coroner Padgett ruled the death accidental.
