In Caledonia near Sullivan, Bill Pittman in a drunken rage attacked Hugh Burke with a razor. Burke was severely injured, with arteries severed and heavy bleeding, but doctors stabilized him. Pittman has a history of trouble and robbery and remains at large awaiting apprehension.
The former Ascension Seminary students met at Farmersburg on Tuesday for their second annual reunion. The event surpassed last year with a special program that revived many old friendships and memories. Captain Crawford delivered a fitting inspirational address. Officers remained the same: D. W. Henry president, John C. Chaney vice president, Hartley Bennett and Harvey Curry secretaries, L. K. Stock treasurer, Wm. M. Moss historian.
Charles Eaton buys Dan Davis share and will run the Pris Cafe at the old stand. Davis retires due to ill health and plans a visit to Greece before possibly returning to Sullivan if health improves. Davis aims to return if health permits.
The case State versus James and Sarah Obbs involves obtaining money under false pretenses. Bond set at 1000 dollars with Wm M Bennett and Richard Chambers serving as bondsmen.
Mrs Louise Williams of Oxford Ohio visits relatives. She is over eighty and says she and her family were enslaved in Carroll County Kentucky before the Civil War. Her husband John Tousey was whipped and sold to a New Orleans slave driver after a quarrel with a guest. He and the family were later separated and lost to trace.
Fred Briggs formerly of Sullivan and known to many county residents died Monday at his Logansport home from a stroke of paralysis suffered a year earlier. He was about 50, son of the late Major Joseph W. Briges, brother of the late Judge John C. Briges and Dr. Chas. F. Briggs. Survived by wife, daughter Lorena, and sister Mrs. Anna Faris of this city. Burial at Michigan City today.

James Watson a 70 plus year old Mexican War veteran lives in Sullivan and is claimed dead by the pension department. He served as private in Co G 1st Illinois Infantry, enlisted 1846 at Alton, Ill. A discharged certificate existed but was lost in a 1852 fire. The captain reportedly promised discharge but never issued it, and Watson’s status was misrecorded as deceased after a surgeon’s prognosis. The case is unusual and pitiful as he struggles to prove he is living.
The Great Eastern Carnival Co. will furnish attractions for the Sullivan street fair April 10 to 15. It toured Defiance Ohio last week and will exhibit in Anderson Indiana this week. Defiance has 8,000 residents and Anderson 20,000, and the company draws crowds with high class and clean shows.
Charles F. Parks and Lou E. Rogers head a list of marriage licenses issued. Will M. Dickerson weds Minta Morgan and Ollie Smith teams with Agnes Bennie. E Pirtle weds Alice Bow en, while William Cutty marries Emma Gentry. G W French weds Sarah A Rat cliff.
The Woman's Foreign Missionary Society invites all to an Ice Cream Supper at New Lebanon on Saturday evening July 11. Miss Blanche Mays of Paris Illinois visited Miss Lulu Stewart last week.
Mrs. W. A. Andrews of North Section Street ingested corrosive sublimate and benzine in a personal crisis this morning. Dr. W. N. Thompson treated her but she refused a stomach pump. She later died at 2 p.m. witnesses say marital strain and an excursion to Chicago preceded the act.
Mrs. Eliza J. Wyman died Monday morning at her North Hamilton home from appendicitis. She was 70 and mother of Henry Wyman and Mrs. Sam Taylor. Funeral held at Liberty Thursday afternoon.
George W. French aged 65 and Sarah E. Ratcliff wed on Tuesday. French, a first husband, married for the fourth time for Ratcliff who had previous marriages. The couple were sweethearts in youth and plan to reside south of Sullivan.
Prosecutions of illicit hopple joints in Jackson township yield four convictions and multiple fines after a split term. Ten guilty pleas carry 25 fines. ten trials await next term. no dismissals. A fatal shooting in Grant Station ends with Freeman claiming self defense against Robert Daugherty, a former saloonman and jealous husband.
The first wheat threshed in the county was by Pat Hoseman of Gill township last week. Hoseman sold his crop to E S Crowder and began delivering at the Merom elevator last Monday. Jake Beauregard of John Banefield's farm in Gill township was among the first to market this year's crop, delivering No 2 2nd grade wheat to Crowder at Merom for 70 cents per bushel.
