Decoration Day program outlines a 10 am procession to the cemetery for grave decoration, followed by a 2 pm program at the M E church featuring songs recitations drills and tributes. Children are listed for cemetery march and church drills are assigned to local instructors.
The Kansas City Commercial Club brought thirteen Pullman cars with about 80 members for a one week tour. The trip covered Kansas and Nebraska with many railroad lines and included representatives from diverse businesses. A large local crowd met the party at the depot and well wishers gathered to celebrate Grandpa Bugbee’s birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Bugbee were surprised by relatives including Mr. and Mrs. John Bugbee and family D. A. Bugbee and others. The gathering honored Grandpa Bugbee who turned 86 on the 16th with a May sing.
Sunday School at 10 A M and preaching at 11 A M and 7 30 P M the W F M S met with Mrs Ellermeier for a postponed meeting Proceeds from the Ladies Aid social were 7 50 Memorial services will be held next Sunday morning with the sermon by the pastor Mothers Day program drew a large audience and a white flower was given to each mother present
Birth notices list newborn sons to families near Steele City and Diller. Mr. and Mrs. Chas Hunnicutt welcomed a son on May 19. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Lynch reported a son born about 54 miles northwest of Steele City on May 20. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Carmichael announced a son born about 4 miles northwest of Diller on May 20.
Chance Gillett visited Fairbury on Saturday. Mr. Wellers from Lanham came through on Sunday. Cora Miller of Beatrice is visiting family. Ida Hodges left for Hanover to work. Earl Faris took the teachers exam at Fairbury. Mrs. M. J. Stone left for Washington. Geo. Crane and Mr. Millice from Steele City were in Hollenberg Sunday. Hollie Algeo left for Hanover to work with the G. I. pile driver. Chas. McKay went to Hutchinson Kansas to visit his son Herbert. Roscoe Wilkie and Velma Ahlers attended Steele City commencement last Friday.
Report shows 29 pupils enrolled with 27 average attendance and one visitor. No tardies. list of students never absent or tardy includes Campbell Campbell Opal Campbell Winnie Carr and others. Annie Rucker teaches Primary Room. 34 pupils enrolled with 18 present and 2 tardies.
A list records students with perfect attendance including Charles Crinklaw Floyd Hoeft Nellie Coons Wallace Palmer and Dollie Reynolds. Nellie Coons also earned an eighteen month certificate while Elmer Davis attended daily but was late. Gertrude Andrews, Teacher.
The village of Steele City Nebraska adopts an annual appropriation for 1912 levying ten mills on property. Seven mills fund officers salaries and streets, one mill water, two mills general fund. Ordinance takes effect after passage and publication. May 6, 1912. H. E. Clapp and H. B. Rucker sign as chairman. Village Clerk attests.
Local retailer advertises reduced prices for five sack and ten sack lots with limited quantities and bold display signs. Shoppers are urged to act quickly as supplies may run out and prices apply to a short sale window.
