Mr and Mrs Joe Davis dined at Harold Packer home. J P Pickering returned from Illinois. Mrs W C Palmer and two nephews visited relatives in Wymore. Dan Bracken left for Bristow Okla. H J Fahrenwald family visited E W Coder home near Enosdale. Clyde Packer visited John Kersting. Howard Deems returned home from school term at Lawiston. Mrs Bowers called on Fave Goldsberry. Oliver Decker and family stayed with the Outhier home. Mrs R S Wilfley is out again after ankle injury. F W Lowe delivered a Chevrolet Landau to Ben Goes and a Chevrolet coach to Orvil Belding. Francie Clark and family of Hubbell visited relatives here. Mrs Tarnow returned home with them. H R Beeson and daughter from Lincoln visited G E Wright. H R Beeson is manager of Hardy Furniture in Lincoln. H R Drake took charge of Steele City's hardware business and moving items. Drake welcomed in Steele City and wishes for success.
Pastor V. W. Pfautz leads Sunday School at 10 A M and worship at 11 A M. Junior Endeavor meets at 2 15 P M Christ in Endeavor at 7 30 P M and Evening Service at 8 P M.
A 27 car cattle train departed Steele City and Hollenberg Kansas for Chicago market. Owners shared a chair car and one passenger rode free for every two cars. Commission men assisted with loading as officials estimated the shipment value around $60,000, a record for a town of Steele City.
Erme Puthier married Miss Erma Outhier daughter of Mr and Mrs A E Outhier and Mrie Decker daughter of Charles Decker both of Hollenberg at Washington Kansas on Wednesday afternoon. Leon Sand witnessed the ceremony. The couple will farm after the wedding with many friends offering best wishes.
Mr. Thornton McCurdy son of Mr. Clark McCurdy wins highest honors in his class and receives a Free Scholarship in stenographic bookkeeping telegraph or civil service course at Chillicothe Business College in Missouri.
J W Hicks hardware store was broken into last Thursday night through a smashed back window. The safe was robbed and items including knives razors and flashlights were taken. Footprints indicate theft moved through an alley to the street east where an automobile loaded the goods. A $1700 loss reported at Lanham and similar break ins at Carleton.
Governor McMullen proclaims Memorial Day for May 31, noting it shifts from Sunday May 30 when the 30th falls on Sunday. The Grand Army of the Republic observes the following day, and church services will be held on Sunday. The observance traces to 1868 with nearly two million Union veterans then, now about 115000.
Mrs Geo Bennett and family of Sparks Kansas visited the area arriving Tuesday to spend several days with relatives and attend the Alumni Banquet. A crowded Class play drew attendees Friday night. Dr Andrews of Fairbury made a professional call in town Tuesday. Arthur and Edith Majors of Peru spent the latter part of the week at home. Chas McCreight sold the Resturant and plans possession soon. The Golden Rule Sunday School class will picnic at Camp Jefferson Wednesday afternoon. Walter of Lincoln gave a talk on Ben Hur Saturday at the church. Orin Outhier, U P employee, spent Sunday with family. Miss Moore, Normal teacher in Beatrice, visited Freda Kuper Sunday. The Breazelle family spent Sunday at the Endicott home.
