Ross Pickering injured four fingers of his right hand while handling water and went to town for treatment. Dr. Taylor dressed the wound.
Next Sunday the K of P lodge of Atosle City holds memorial services at 2 30 p m Rev H B Alien will give the memorial address in the M E church Afterward members will decorate the graves of departed members The public is invited to attend the services.
Samuel Barber of Steele City marries Esther L Kenney of Fairbury in Diller last Monday evening. Kenney recently worked in Mc Donnell's store Fairbury and is from Michigan. The couple are staying with Barber's sister Mrs. Frank Cole northeast of town.
A barn caught fire during the noon hour on Thursday, with flames seen spreading quickly. Fire crews battled the blaze, preventing spread to nearby structures as authorities investigated the cause.
A 30 by 40 foot barn on Joe Wathor's farm northeast of Hollenberg burned down along with a granary and hen house. Horses and harness were saved but feed was lost. Believed started by children playing with matches, the owner lacked insurance as his policy expired last April.
Mr and Mrs W L Chancellor were summoned after their son George, who had moved to manage a ranch, was injured driving horses. The horse fell into a gopher hole, throwing him about fifteen to twenty feet and causing a dislocated back and five broken ribs. He endures severe pain from the fall.
The St Joseph and Grand Island Railway Company reduces its force of section workers in a cost cutting move affecting crew assignments and operations. The transition impacts staffing levels and daily duties along the line.
The Riakive will cut crews as Hollenberg and Steele City sections merge under J. C. New ex Hollenberg foreman. George Porter heads the Doniphan section. A gasoline powered car will replace handcars. New rents Roderick house and will move in weeks.
Nearly all residents joined a morning cemetery visit where children supervised by Miss Myrtle Kelsey and Mrs. Pearce Earhart decorated graves led by Mr. Wm. Crane. An afternoon church program at the Methodist church featured songs speeches recitations and stories of the Spanish-American War by Elton Clapp.
The M. E. Church schedules Sunday School at 10 a m and preaching every other Sunday at 11 a m and 7 30 p m. Thursday prayer meetings begin at 7 20 p m Pastor A B Shepard leads. The Junior League will study Volunteers Isaiah 6 8 next Sunday afternoon. The Sunday School Board met at the parsonage Monday evening with thirteen members present. Thirteen members attended. three wherries and ice cream were served. The Juniors spent last Friday at Superintendent Mrs Sherman Babcock's home with games and refreshments. The young men and young
Women of the Sunday school planned a picnic for last Friday evening but weather forced Wright's hall to be used. The young people from this church and the Congregational church enjoyed an evening together with an excellent supper served by the young ladies.
A new time card took effect on the St. Joe and G I lines last Sunday. The motor is back in service daily, a fall-removal change was reversed, and minor timing adjustments were made to several trains. The schedule shows westbound freight No 15 on Mon Wed Fri at 6 08 a m. motor No 7 daily at 7 32 a m. passenger No 3 daily at 3 35 p m. passenger No 11 daily at 2 32 a m. eastbound passenger No 2 daily at 1 15 a m.
