Local Steele City items review visits and migrations including Mr. Wilfrey on sick list and Dr. W C Dean visiting from Omaha. Community events cover July Ladies Aid, Endicott celebration, barbershop moves, and church activities at Steele City Presbyterian Church with pastor absent and Christian Endeavor gatherings.
A Friday family reunion at H. H. Becks on July 4 brought together 34 relatives for a picnic dinner and supper followed by a fireworks display. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Wooda, Mr. and Mrs. Friday and three Beckwiths, Blair and Traum families, and guests from Beatrice, Fairbury, Lincoln, and Steele City.
Taxi service seen. Franken's Fancy stationery offered at the office. Read Bros. in Fairbury handle dishes. Carpenter and cabinet maker services listed by John Beckmann from 1921.
A Sunday school group visited Fern Kiskalt at home on Monday night for her birthday. The group played games and enjoyed refreshments while Fern received many nice presents.
The Steele City second base ball team lost to Harbine 19 to 4 a week ago Sunday. A local group visiting from near the state line also defeated Steele City last Sunday. Results from July 6 show Steele City 6 Endicott 7, Gladstone 5, Powell 9, Harbine 6, Diller 0, Fairbury 8, Reynolds 9. Next Sunday, Steele City faces Powell at home and the second team plans a match arrangement.
In Fairbury on the Fourth of July a trio of youths disrupted Main Street with speeding. Citizens protested to the city marshal who stopped them on the next run. They were taken to the Justice of the Peace Court and plead to the charges.
The note records Mr. and Mrs. O J Wing and daughter Nellie Megonigle visiting in Gilead on Sunday while Agatha Megonigle spent the Fourth with relatives in Topeka. A quoted line from the Richmond Times Dispatch reflects a regional vernacular remark about coming after getting hurt.
