A church building is described as a symbol of faith and service with spaces for worship education social life and recreation. The plan includes basement kitchen Sunday School quarters ample sunlight auditor ium for 250 lecture room for 50 balcony for 100 plus 100 extra on special occasions a mothers rest room and a dedication day set for the first Sunday in October 1927.
A baby girl named Shirley Lee was born last Tuesday Jan 18 to Mr and Mrs Geo McLachlin of Lincoln. Mrs McLachlin is sister to Mrs Arner. Mrs John Hughes and Mr and Mrs H Yeakle of Fairbury visited in Steele City on Sunday. Also noted is a for sale range in first class condition at Drakes Hardware Store Gts R 8 Wilfrey. George Cook and wife of Emmons Kansas called on Mrs Kersting Sunday.
Local notes from Fairbury Nebraska and surrounding areas. Mr C F Pethoud returned to Beatrice after visiting his son Chester. Mrs Westphal of Omaha visited friends in Fairbury. Floyd Hoeft left for Grand Island to visit relatives. William Pearson remains seriously ill with daily Dr O Neil attendance. Onaway Club met at Mrs Fay Clark’s home with refreshments. Several residents listed visiting relatives in St. Joe Chicago Mahaska St Joe and Chicago area.
Pastor W. W. Pfautz urges attendance as Rev Westphal wowed last Sunday. Bible school next Sunday expects 150 attendees. Night services led by Bible class men and then by women. Mother and daughter banquet drew 168. father and son banquet noted. If 160 fathers and sons and 150 mothers and daughters joined, church could reach 300 members. Continued on back page.
A Monday night banquet in Steele City hosted Mothers and Daughters with 168 plates served. The hall featured flags and candles, men served dishes, music by the Steele City band, and performances by Mr. Baker of Fairbury. Several toasts honored mothers and faith led by Mrs. Pfautz, with prayers and hymns concluding the evening.
Diller defeats Town team 17 to 11 last Tuesday night. Plymouth edges Steele City 17 to 10 in Friday junior varsity clash. Steele City 27 6 cnd teams at Fairbury. second teams Plymouth 15 Steele City 18.
Several winter wolf hunts have been staged nearby with one reported killed Sunday near Lanham. A hunt is scheduled for this Thursday January 27 in the vicinity.
Rose comb Rhode Island Red cockerels and social mentions appear with names like Mrs F W Hanson and Wallace Palmer of Lincoln visiting Ike Woods family over Sunday. Henry Amends shipped two carloads of cattle to market from Diller. Clarks Store fills ice house amid cold weather. Several chicken pox cases reported and precaution urged. County Declamatory contest at Diller Friday night to be broadcast by remote control KMMJ with orchestra and glee club competition.
Dr. A. L. Smith of Lincoln sustained rib fractures and severe facial and hand cuts in a Thursday auto accident east of town near the Nida farm while en route to St. Elizabeths hospital. Dr. G. H. Misko and a Lincoln nurse escaped with minor injuries. the car hit deep ruts and a culvert, landing in a ditch.
The Degree of Honor elected its 1927 officers with May Greenweed as President and Irene Cassel as Past President. Lucille Pethoud was Vice President, Sarah Wallace 2nd Vice President, Rebecca James Recorded, Elizabeth Rucker Financier, Bisiy Franzen Treasurer, Fern Kiskalt Usher, Francis Crinklaw Asst Usher, Lola Darling Inside Watch, Myrtle Bundy Outside Watch, Roberta Jones 1st Recorder, O Neil Physician.
