County S. 8 Convention in Diller marks 54th annual event
The Jefferatm County Council of Religious Education held its 54th annual convention in Diller on Tuesday with a full day program starting at 10 a.m. A noon basket dinner followed, with Rev. W. W. Plants leading song services and devotions. Steele City delegates attended the Sunday School gathering, and Rev. Paul Payne of York spoke in the afternoon and evening. Friday night April 29 features senior class play Am I Intruding.

Steele City hosts County Educational Day on Friday April 29 with twelve rural programs across the county. The day opens at 9 30 AM at the Opera House featuring a talk by Supt M C Leffier of Lincoln City Schools and a noon communal meal provided by local merchants. An afternoon track meet, a rural versus Steele City Grade School baseball game, and an exhibit of school work follow, with an evening performance of Am I Intruding by the Senior Class.

Win Prizes at County Contest in Fairbury
Three District 58 pupils earned recognition at a county contest held last Saturday in Fairbury. Wilma Ellison placed 2nd oral and 2nd in written spelling, Velma Wehling 3rd in written spelling, and Viola Fanders 5th in arithmetic among 45 contestants. Their teacher is Miss Francis Crinklaw.

The fourth district convention met in Fairbury for three days with 150 delegates. Weather and poor roads reduced attendance while Mrs Glen Riddle and Mrs Hubert Manning attended from Steele City. District president Mrs Abondi presided as meetings featured music and talks by prominent locals and an exhibit of labor saving household devices.
