A local group hosted a social event in which attendees contributed to the church building fund. The hostess provided delicious refreshments, and the occasion was described as a pleasant community gathering with a charitable purpose.
Local items list Gail Gragy, Walter Lenker, and many residents making trips to Lincoln, Kansas, Fairbury and Hanover. Shoppers buy carbon paper, paint and lumber. horses and stables advertised. several families visit kin this weekend. A Kewanee election sees James Andrews win mayor by nearly 150 votes.
Sunday School at 10, church service at 11, evening 7 30 with services in the K of P hall. Attendance praised in the morning, poor at night. Next Sunday honors mothers with morning service and a gospel team from Fairbury will lead Sunday night. Rev Pfautz to take part in Omaha Theological Seminary graduation exercises.
The district Degree of Honor convention was held in Steele City on May 3 and 4 with delegates from across the district. The event opened Tuesday night with Florence Grand Secretary Rose Herrick in attendance, featuring local talent and lodge activities. The Wednesday schedule included lodge business, a noon hall dinner, and an afternoon entertainment, drawing a large delegation from nearby towns. Steele City welcomes future visits by Degree of Honor No 24.

A county wide educational day unfolded in Steele City and other towns including Endicott Fairbury and Diller with morning programs in opera houses and school buildings. Adam Grotzinger gave the welcome, Supt Leffler spoke, a basket dinner followed, and afternoon events featured inter class track and a Steele City country district baseball game. Exhibits showcased district and town schools while the senior class play Am Intruding entertained a large crowd.
A severe wind driven hail storm formed a funnel near Diller and moved northeast. The hardest hit areas were north of Diller and near Hardy with farm structures at Emit Krebs destroyed and trees uprooted. Beatrice and other towns reported heavy rain. livestock losses occurred but no injuries reported.
Notice of the annual stockholders meeting to be held at the hall on Monday night May 9 at 8 o clock. Also an advertisement for a Percheron stallion for service priced at 10 with contact details. Brief baseball results list Steele City losses to Endicott high and a 4-3 game with Lily Cleaners of Fairbury.
Tuesday report notes Mrs Cora Cuthbert and Marlo Adams visiting the Herman Eggenberger home. Mrs Eggenberger is recovering at home this week from the hospital. The past week brought heavy rain delaying fieldwork and farming activities.
