Deserter Leo Border Surrenders After Escape to Visit Mother
Leo H Border a former Springfield boy escaped from Norfolk naval hospital where he was treated for illness and returned to Gravel Switch Marion county to see his mother. He later surrendered at the Louisville naval recruiting station to face desertion charges. Border enlisted in Decatur Illinois on May 25 and contracted spinal meningitis leading to hospitalization. He is returned to Norfolk to face punishment expected to be light. He is the son of the late Border and grandson of Mr W G Berry of Gravel Switch.

1906 Tobacco Crop Shipped to Louisville for Storage
The Washington County Tobacco Warehouse Company ships seven carloads of the 1906 crop to Louisville for storage in the Louisville Tobacco Warehouse. Remaining cargoes follow in a few days to make room for the 1907 delivery. The 1906 crop has not been sold and is kept in storage for the present.
