Voters who missed the regular registration day may register on supplemental days Monday Tuesday and Wednesday before the November election. Applies to incorporated towns only with three Springfield precincts in Washington county. Absent or ill voters may register by affidavit at the county clerk on the three days before the election.
Telegram reports the death of Dr J F Rinehart in Oakland California after an appendicitis surgery. Born and raised in Washington county he practiced in Springfield for years and built a lucrative practice. He moved to California six years ago and became a prominent physician in Oakland. He was married to Miss Mallie Raybourn and survived by his wife and several children.
A protracted Bethlehem church meeting revives the congregation and sparks interest among the unsaved. Two additions to the church have joined so far, Ef W. D. Moore of Anderson and Rev J W Campbell. Meetings continue for another week led by Pastor Rev R L PUR dom.
Valuable mare Miss Barber by Chestnut Dare dam Black Bean sold for 150 dollars to W S Gibbs. This is the fourth colt from Miss Barber sold to Mr Gibbs with Black Bean producing multiple blue ribbons. All her colts have proven premium winners.
Miss Mattie McCarley died at her home in Lancaster Kentucky last Saturday afternoon from inflammation of the stomach. The body was buried Sunday afternoon at Lancaster. She was sister of Mrs. J F Pettus of this city and had visited Springfield often. Mr and Mrs Pettus were at her bedside at the end.
Rev W H Williams announced on Sunday he will remain as pastor of the Springfield Baptist Church rather than accept the Kentucky Baptist State Sunday School Board Secretary role. Church members, by unanimous vote, urged him to stay, praising his work and stressing the need for his leadership locally.
A box containing human bones was unearthed on the lot of Mr. LS Mayes on Main Street by workers last Saturday evening. The box was buried three feet deep in the rear of the lot, apparently many years old, with only the skull missing. Authorities do not know whether the remains are from a past dissections or a crime.
Washington county residents will hear two major Democratic speakers in Springfield on Monday October 28 at 1 pm Harry V McChesney Kentucky Secretary of State and J Morgan Chinn Clerk of the Appellate Court will speak. On Friday November 1 at 1 pm Hon A O Stanley Congressman will address voters at the Court House Springfield T Scott Mayes schedule includes Fenwick Mackville Texas events on Oct 19 29 30 at 7 or 8 pm
The circuit lists Oct. 18 in Texas at 2 PM with Hon W C McChord followed by Oct. 19 Mackville, Oct. 21 Cardwell, Oct. 22 Sharpsville, Oct. 23 at Black and Johnson's, Oct. 24 Polin, Oct. 25 Mooresville and Oct. 26 McIntire all at 2 o'clock local time.
At a Winchester meeting of the Burley Tobacco Growers Association of Kentucky the Washington County American Society of Equity pooled tobacco handling methods were approved. A plan to locate a central warehouse for grading and storage was praised and a request to other counties to adopt the approach was passed. Executive Committee action and sentiments from counties will be reported at a later Winchester meeting on the 29th. W. C. McChord was praised for service to the tobacco growers, and his leadership was cheered at the gathering.
Mr and Mrs G c Wharton entertained at euchre Monday evening in honor of Mr and Mrs J C Clements. Attendees included J C Clements W D McElroy T B Blanford Katie Cain Willie Knott Katie Wharton Mary Lee Simms Cecelia Simms Mattie Robertson Joe Clements and W H Wharton. First prize went to Mattie Robertson a China hair receiver and consolation to J C Clements a box of candy.
With the Fall term of the Washington County Circuit Court under two weeks away the docket shows fifty five indictments mostly misdemeanors and twenty one old cases while civil filings total seventy two with fifty continued. No murder charges appear and no startling indictments are listed. the term is expected to fill the schedule.
Ike Young, a colored delivery boy, spotted a tarantula on bananas outside Hagan Bros. store last Friday. He shouted about a giraffe thing causing a scene while the spider was captured and placed on display to be kept in alcohol. Meanwhile Mrs. Johnson runs a two week cooking class with twelve students in Springfield.
The notice reminds sportsmen to review state game laws before opening day. It details closed periods for quail, partridge, pheasant, rabbits, and squirrels and notes rabbits may be caught with dogs. The Mt 710N quarterly meeting was held at Mt Zen church Sunday presided over by Pastor Rev. Eversole due to the preaching elder’s absence. Farmers prepare ground for wheat sowing. Several local residents visited kin and attended events including reunions and family visits in Bardstown and Bloomfield.
A Kentucky family of ten children aged 81 to 60 totals 693 years. The group, all in good health, gathered with relatives Hugh L. McElroy of Kansas City and Martha J. McDowell of Danville, except Susan Field of Louisville who stayed home. Names and ages include Mary R. Hughes 81, Palmer Grundy 79, Chas R. McElroy 77, Hugh L. McElroy 75, A C McElroy 72, Martha J. McDowell 70, Nicholas McDowell 65, Wm L McElroy 63, Emmett Field 61, John s McElroy 60.
A series of meetings is held at the Christian church this week led by pastor Eld. W. F. Rogers assisted by Eld. G. W. Dick from Bourbon county. Dick is praised as a pulpit orator whose sermons are lyric and moving. The meetings began Monday night and will run through next week.
Willisburg residents host relatives from Louisville and Lexington over the weekend as visits to families continue. The Rev W C Gibbs of Lawrenceburg conducts Christian church meetings drawing good attendance while locals recount weekend trips to Keenwood Moreland Bloomfield and Sattle with kin and friends.
